It doesn\u2019t matter if you got the message asking you to link your NIN, confirm on your end first. Imagine going through the whole process just to find out you didn\u2019t need to.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Visit the <\/span>MTN NIN status portal<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Then input your MTN number.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. When you enter your number, an OTP will be sent to it. Type in the OTP sent to you in the space provided.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. After that, you will receive a confirmation of your NIN linking status.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Alternatively, you can check your MTN NIN status via the shortcode. Dial *996#, select option 4 \u201c<\/span>View NIN Status<\/b>\u201d, and follow the prompts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    4 Ways To Link NIN to an MTN Number in 2026<\/h2>\n

    If you have confirmed that your NIN is not linked to your line, does that mean you have to embark on a journey to an MTN office? Luckily, no. You can link your NIN to your MTN line in four different ways without visiting an MTN store. They are:<\/span><\/p>\n

      If you want to link your NIN to your number via the MTN portal, follow these simple steps:<\/span><\/p>\n

      1. Visit the official <\/span>MTN online NIN verification portal<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Select the type of verification you want to do i.e NIN<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. Then input your <\/span>MTN<\/b> phone number<\/b>, <\/span>National Identification Number<\/b>, and <\/span>email address<\/b> into the spaces provided.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      4. Double-check that the details you entered are correct, then click \u201c<\/span>Next<\/b>\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

            Using the NIMC App to Link NIN to an MTN Number<\/b><\/h2>\n

            National Identity Management Commission, <\/span>NIMC<\/span><\/a>, has introduced an app that allows you to link up to seven numbers to an NIN. To get the NIMC Mobile App, download \u201dMWS: NIMC MobileID\u201d from the App Store for iOS devices or the Google Play Store for Android devices.<\/span><\/p>\n

            Follow these straightforward steps to link your NIN to your MTN line using the NIMC App:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

            1. Download the \u201cMWS: NIMC MobileID\u201d\u2019 app from the store on your device.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
            2. Open the app and enter your <\/span>NIN<\/b> and <\/span>phone number<\/b>. MTN will send an OTP to your line for verification (valid for 30 minutes).<\/span><\/li>\n
            3. Next, create a <\/span>6-digit PIN<\/b>. You’ll need this PIN to sign in to your NIMC mobile app dashboard.<\/span><\/li>\n

              If you’ve previously linked your NIN but have forgotten it, you can retrieve it from the mobile number used during registration by dialling *346#. Select option 1 \u201c<\/span>NIN Retrieval<\/b>\u201d, follow the prompts, and a one-time notification will display your NIN.<\/span><\/p>\n

              6. What is the code for linking NIN on MTN?<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

              The USSD code\/shortcode for linking NIN to an MTN line, and other NIN-related tasks is *996#.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

              There are various reasons why you may be unable to link your NIN to your MTN line.
