## The short version

* **Nomad:** Cheap per-gigabyte data in 200+ destinations, priced in dollars.
* **Nosh:** eSIMs you can pay in Naira. Different types and plans available.

## Why Nigerian travellers compare Nomad with other apps

Most people looking at alternatives have hit one of three situations.

* **The card was declined:** Nomad prices in US dollars. Nigerian Naira cards frequently fail on international checkouts, which is where most of these purchases end.
* **It's for abroad, not home:** Travel eSIMs cover the country you're visiting. Your airtime and data in Nigeria still need a separate app.
* **One more account, one more card:** If you already hold a wallet that sells travel data, adding a card-based checkout is a step you may not need.

## What Nomad does

Nomad sells travel data bundles for more than 200 destinations at local per-gigabyte rates, installed in a tap or by QR code, with add-ons that top up the same eSIM when you run low, hotspot and tethering allowed, a data calculator to size your plan, long-term Global-EX plans for frequent flyers, and 24/7 live chat.

## Nomad pros and cons

Based on its published plans and terms, and on its public review record.

| Pros | Cons |
| --- | --- |
| Cheap per-gigabyte pricing, better value than unlimited for light use | Priced in US dollars, with no Naira option |
| 200+ destinations, with local and regional plans | Built for travel abroad, so no help with data at home in Nigeria |
| Top-ups attach to the same eSIM instead of a new purchase | You have to size the bundle yourself, and running out mid-trip means buying more |
| Hotspot, tethering and data sharing across devices | Only some plans include a local phone number |
| Strong ratings on both app stores, plus a 1GB free trial | Its 4.3 Trustpilot score trails the biggest brands in the category |

## What users say

Travellers rate the app and the price. The friction for Nigerians shows up at checkout.

| What users like | What users complain about |
| --- | --- |
| Price per gigabyte - Cheaper than roaming and most rivals. | Payment rejected - Naira cards declined at checkout. |
| A good app - One-tap install, easy top-ups. | Running out - Bundles need sizing before you travel. |
| Tethering allowed - Share data with a laptop or a friend. | Setup help needed - Install issues resolved by chat support. |

## How users rate it

The three platforms these reviews were drawn from.

| Platform | Rating | Reviews |
| --- | --- | --- |
| App Store | 4.8 | Company figure |
| Google Play | 4.7 | Company figure |
| Trustpilot | 4.3 | About 42,700 |

Checked September 2026. The app store figures are the ones Nomad publishes on its own site; the Trustpilot score and count come from its Trustpilot profile. As with any global provider, these reflect travellers worldwide who completed a purchase, so they say little about buying from Nigeria.

## Nomad vs Nosh: how they compare

A global travel eSIM brand against a West African wallet that sells travel data. These are the rows that decide it.

| What differs | Nomad | Nosh |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pay in Naira | No, US dollars only | **Yes, from your wallet balance** |
| Data/Calls/Texts | Data only | **Data only, data/calls/texts** |
| Dollar card needed | Yes | **No** |
| Destinations | **200+, local and regional** | local, regional, and global (136 countries) |
| Top up an existing eSIM | Yes, add-ons attach to the same eSIM | Yes, top up and extend validity |
| Data at home in Nigeria | Not offered | **Yes, airtime, data and bills** |
| Also in the same app | eSIM only | **Gift cards, crypto, bills, betting top-ups** |

Checked 11 September 2026. Plan prices vary by destination, data size and duration on both platforms, so compare your own route on the day you buy. The fuller breakdown is on the Nosh vs Nomad comparison page.

## Where each platform is ahead

These two aren't really the same product. These are the differences that matter most.

### Where Nomad is ahead

* **Price per gigabyte** local rates from around $0.62/GB in popular destinations
* **Coverage** 200+ destinations, with regional and long-term options
* **Top-ups on the same eSIM** no reinstall when you run low
* **Traveller features** tethering, data sharing, a data calculator and a free trial

### Where Nosh is ahead

* **You can actually pay** Naira from your wallet, no dollar card to be declined
* **Money you already have** buy travel data from gift card or crypto proceeds
* **Useful at home too** airtime, data and bills in Nigeria and Ghana
* **Local support** a team in your market, not a global queue

## Our verdict

The better-value global eSIM. The barrier is the same one: paying from Nigeria.

Nomad is the sensible end of the global eSIM market: bundles at local per-gigabyte rates rather than unlimited plans you overpay for, add-ons that top up the eSIM you already installed, tethering allowed, and ratings of 4.8 and 4.7 on the two app stores. If you have a card that works internationally and you know roughly how much data you use, it's good value and a genuinely good app. The problem for Nigerian travellers is the checkout, because everything is priced in US dollars and Naira cards are routinely declined, and a travel eSIM does nothing for you at home either, so your airtime and data in Nigeria stay on another app. Nosh sells local, regional & global eSIMs in Naira & Cedis, and you can use the same app to pay your bills at home.

If your dollar card works and you want the cheapest gigabyte, Nomad is a strong pick. If your card keeps failing, or you'd rather spend a balance you already have, that's the gap Nosh fills.

## What People Also Ask About Nomad

### Is Nomad eSIM legit?

Yes. Nomad is an established travel eSIM provider with apps on both stores, coverage in more than 200 destinations, a 4.3 rating on Trustpilot from about 42,700 reviews, and coverage in mainstream travel and tech press.

### Can I pay for Nomad in Naira?

No. Nomad prices in US dollars, so you need a card that works for international payments, and Nigerian Naira cards are often declined. Nosh sells travel eSIMs priced in Naira, paid from your wallet balance.

### Is Nomad cheaper than Holafly?

They price differently rather than one being simply cheaper. Nomad sells data bundles at per-gigabyte rates, which suits light and moderate users, while Holafly sells unlimited data by the day, which suits heavy users. Work out your likely daily usage before comparing the two.

### What happens if I run out of data on Nomad?

You buy an add-on and it attaches to the eSIM you already installed, so there's no second QR code and no reinstall. That's one of its more useful features.

### Can I use a hotspot with a Nomad eSIM?

Yes. Nomad supports tethering and hotspot, and some plans let you share data across devices, which is worth checking in the plan description before you buy.

### Does Nomad work for data inside Nigeria?

Nomad sells travel plans for people visiting a country, so it is not a substitute for a local data plan at home. For airtime, data and bills in Nigeria, use a local app such as Nosh.

### What is a good alternative to Nomad in Nigeria?

If paying in dollars is the problem, Nosh sells travel eSIMs in Naira from the same wallet you use for gift cards, crypto and bills. If your card works and you want the cheapest per-gigabyte rate, Nomad is the stronger product.

## How we reviewed Nomad

What we looked at, and where each figure came from.

We looked at the plan model, destination coverage, payment currencies, top-up and installation terms, and the traveller features published on Nomad's own site and in its FAQs. App store ratings are the figures Nomad publishes; the Trustpilot score and review count come from its Trustpilot profile. We did not buy a plan, install an eSIM, or test network performance ourselves, and we did not compare prices, because they vary by destination and duration. Everything was checked on 11 September 2026.

**On the payment issue.** Card declines on international purchases from Nigeria depend on your bank, your card type and your limits, and are not something Nomad controls. Some Nigerian travellers pay successfully with a virtual dollar card or an international card. We describe a common experience, not a guaranteed outcome.

**We did not compare plan prices.** The per-gigabyte rates quoted here are Nomad's own published starting prices for selected destinations and change frequently. eSIM pricing varies by destination, data allowance and duration. Check the current price for your own route in each app before buying.
