How To Transfer Airtime on Airtel in 2025

Maybe your younger sibling needs to make a call home, or your friend needs data urgently to send an email, but they don’t have any credit. If you have more than enough, you can decide to share some of your airtime. Instead of saying, “Sorry, I can’t help,” wouldn’t it be great to just send them a little airtime, instantly? This way you don’t have to go through the process of buying airtime for the person.

That’s exactly what this guide is about. In this article, I’ll walk you through how to transfer airtime on Airtel in 2025, step-by-step. Don’t worry, I’ll break it down in simple terms so you can do it easily or even teach someone else.

What Is Airtime Transfer on Airtel?

Before we jump into the how-to, let’s quickly cover the basics. Airtel offers a feature called “Me2U”, which allows you to send airtime from your Airtel line to another Airtel number.

  • Who can use it: Any Airtel prepaid user with a working SIM and a transfer PIN

  • How it works: You use a USSD code (*321#) or the MyAirtel app to send airtime. It’s fast and works without the internet.

  • Transaction limits: Each time you transfer, you must send between ₦50 and ₦5,000.

  • Daily limits: There are no daily, weekly, or monthly limits to transferring

  • Fees: There is no fee to transfer airtime from one Airtel user to another

My favorite part of transferring airtime with Airtel is that it works almost instantly and you don’t need internet access or a smartphone to use it. Just a working Airtel SIM and a simple code. However, before you can successfully transfer airtime on Airtel you will need to input your PIN. The default PIN for Airtel airtime transfer is 1234, but you should change it for security reasons.

To change your airtime transfer PIN,

  • Dial *321#
  • Select option 3 “PIN management”
  • Follow the prompts.

Once you’ve changed the default transfer PIN to your preferred PIN, you can go ahead to transfer airtime through the methods I’m about to show you.

2 Ways To Send Airtime From Airtel to Airtel in 2025

There are two ways you can choose to transfer airtime from an Airtel line to another Airtel line.

  1. Through USSD
  2. Through MyAirtel app

Through USSD

Follow the outlined steps below to share Airtel credit using USSD:

  1. Dial *321# on your Airtel line.
  2. Select option 1 “Airtel to Airtel” and select the option for airtime transfer.
  3. Enter the recipient’s Airtel number and then the amount you wish to transfer.
  4. Confirm the transaction with your PIN when prompted. Then you will receive an SMS from Airtel confirming the status of the transfer.

Transfer Airtel airtime via USSD

This method works for phones both with and without an internet connection. And amazingly, you can use the same code to share airtime and data across other network providers, including MTN, Glo, and 9mobile.

Through MyAirtel App

Using MyAirtel App to Share Airtel Airtime

MyAirtel app can be used to perform various transactions like recharging airtime and buying data bundles. Also, you can use the app to send airtime to another Airtel number by following these simple steps:

  1. Download and install the MyAirtel app from your device’s app store.
  2. Log in to your MyAirtel account with your Airtel number or sign up if you don’t have one.
  3. On the homepage, navigate to the “Quick Actions” section and click “View All” to see all the options.
  4. Then select “ME2U-Share Airtime” at the bottom of the options displayed.
  5. Enter the recipient’s Airtel number and the amount you want to transfer.
  6. Finally, verify the details and enter your PIN to complete the transfer.

Common Issues When Transferring Airtime on Airtel

Sometimes, even when you’re doing everything right, the airtime transfer still won’t go through. Don’t worry, it happens. Here are a few common problems people run into and how to fix them:

  • Transfer not going through: Make sure you have enough airtime. For example, if you’re sending ₦500, you need at least ₦500 on your balance.

  • Getting error messages: Double-check that the recipient’s number is typed correctly. It should be a valid Airtel number (usually starts with 0802, 0808, 0812, 0708, etc.). Even one wrong digit will stop the transfer.

  • Service not working at all: Your line might be barred from using Me2U -this can happen if you entered the wrong PIN too many times. Try calling Airtel customer care at 111 to check and get help.

  • Wrong PIN entered too often: If you’ve forgotten your Me2U PIN or entered it incorrectly too many times, you can reset it. Just dial *321*OldPIN*NewPIN#. If that doesn’t work, contact Airtel support.

  • Transferred to the wrong number: Unfortunately, airtime transfers can’t be reversed. This is why it’s important to always double-check the number before hitting send.
